WHAT MAKES YOU TICK?
As I start this post, I realize I do not have any title in mind. But you would not know this hah! Because I will publish it with a tittle anyway. However, what I have for you is an idea, a thought and… that’s it. The rest is all jumbled up. But seeing that we need to start from somewhere, let me gather my thoughts and make use of this brilliant brain that I have. (or not so brilliant seeing that I couldn’t quite understand any chemistry while in school. But who wants that negativity here? No! Not me. So brilliant brain it is. Amazing Amazon Holiday Deals. ( see what I just did there 😉)
Two days ago, I
met with Juliet Nassazi, a friend I have known for a sometime. Never mind that
we randomly meet or see each other like once a year. She enjoys memes as much
as I do and in my books, we cool. This meet was not random however, I was
having my measurements taken for a dress she was going to make me. Patience
people…. I am building up to something (technically, I am also still figuring
things out in my head. But you do not need to know this.) I HAVE EVERYTHING
UNDER CONTROL.
Moving on, we meet, have some small talk as we clumsily cross the road to some shade on the opposite side. Where some random grown man offered us ice cream 😒😒 and I am pretty sure he had a dark van waiting on the side ready to carry our unconscious bodies inside. But this part is generally irrelevant. So forget it.
Heniwayssss....We do our business and we each go our separate ways. As I hopped into the commuter to head to town, I couldn’t help myself but feel some kind of admiration and respect for her. I was in awe. After a series of not so great jobs or pay (this is entirely me. She may have entirely different reasons for leaving those jobs) Julie had finally found something she was able to do. On her own. By herself, In her time.
Stay with me
people……
I do not know
about you, but I have done some soul searching about what I may possibly be
able to do best and most of what I came up with are the professional skills I
keep putting in my Resume: Problem solving, communication, flexibility,
teamwork etc [never mind that I may not be as “flexible” as advertised] Dear
future potential employer, please disregard some of these things. I beg you!
Thank you!
However, I do like to talk and I love it when people are happy.
(This does sound wrong. But regardless, we move). What I am saying
however is the fact that I am still looking. I have not found. (we are keeping positive) I am yet to find
one.
But I know for a fact that we all have something we are good at. Something we do exceptionally well. Cooking, singing, painting, doing make up, sewing, designing (clothing, buildings, interiors,) landscaping, writing, reading, poetry, dancing, sculpting, baking, weaving, playing an instrument, photography, drawing, public speaking, motivational speaking etc Something that gives us sooo much joy. A skill, a talent, some kind of capability. Something you are really competent at that you could potentially earn from it if you chose to. Something that involves your purpose, that will feed your spirit, something you are passionate about. Or something that will make you be glad as you enjoy whatever it is. Just Long to Be fulfilled.
Seeing that I am also still looking through that list above, I am low key discovering that we probably have let ourselves down by not nurturing the tiny bits and pieces of potential that we see… May be it is because we want things to happen automatically, or we hope that these things should come to us as in a vision we do not want to put in the work. (who doesn't want the easy way out ?)
The reality however is some things in fact need
practice, need some nurturing and they need time. God knows even the best
painters have some work that isn’t their proudest, the best sportsmen have put
in hours of practice, the best singers do some coaching etc.
Or may be because we are too afraid to even try. Afraid to fail. Afraid to not be good enough. But this has never gotten anyone anywhere. Has it? And all I can say about this is that "You miss 100% of the shots you do not take." (Wayne Gretzky) So take that leap.
It does not matter how old you are, or at what point in life you are. Just find something that makes your heart sing, something that thrills you. So grasp onto those little cues people, try. Keep trying until you figure out what you are good at. What you like to do. And make it better. Perfect whatever it is. And if it is not for you, then move on to the other "one thousand things" knowing you are giving each option your best shot. Up until you find something. Anything. Keyword being "find" so put in the work good people. Look for what makes you tick. As I do the same.
Thank goodness your literature classes have not gone to waste.
