WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW BEFORE TRAVELLNG TO KAMPALA, UGANDA. Part 1

Allow me digress a little distinguished ladies and gentlemen whose time I immensely value. (See what I just did there? Stroke your egos for no apparent reason #wink) As I was saying, I will be straying from my normal rants and tantrums and give you part of what you need to know before you get into my dear beautiful country ie The Pearl of Africa.

HOLD UP!

Do not miss out on these Holiday Deals

Let me start by educating all of you! Yes, I am semi angry. AFRICA is not a country people. I repeat, Africa is not a country. It is a Continent. The second largest continent after Asia with 54 independent states. And NO, WE do not all know each other and neither do we all look alike. As a matter of fact, most of the countries on this continent have people of different beautiful tribes and cultures.

.FYI: This post is in no way related to Idi Amin Dada or Kony whatever other juicy stories you have heard about Uganda. Need I mention, it is not all forests and valleys and bushes and bushmen running around naked with spears to hunt for food.  Just read this objectively plus The country has been peaceful for a while.

I will start by saying that Uganda is a landlocked country in East Africa with a tropical climate. Let not "landlocked" fool you. We have the 2nd largest fresh water lake in the world, We have one of the youngest populations in the world. Technically I could go on and on, but you could get this anywhere, as simple as one click Google search. SO do this yourselves.

We have a tropical climate, what this means is that we will have hot days, and cold days depending on the season. Not cold-snow, or minus degrees, I mean cold, rainy, wet and muddy (depending on where you are)Now this means you will enjoy the glorious sunny bright days (Oh how I enjoy these) sun bathe, go for a swim, enjoy the local lake beaches, go on hikes. We have some pretty awesome game parks, go on hikes, game drives, enjoy the fresh air and bask in the glory of this beautiful place. Please remember to dress appropriately. This also means we have mosquitoes, ie Malaria. But with the right treatment, you are good to go-that is if you get sick and it also means that you should probably carry some sunscreen.

The country has people of different tribes and cultures. This means that depending on where you are the language will change and the food may differ a little but the one thing we all have is the fact that we are all generally Hospitable. Friendly, welcoming and generally humble. People here are pleasant, cordial and sociable. It does not matter where you are in Uganda. If you are ever in need of some kind of assistance, you will get it. English is the official language so if you know English or some English, you are good to go.

However, while we are all really hospitable, often at times someone will take advantage of this to steal, rob or con someone. So be sober. Except for shops, arcades, malls, hotels, restaurants etc with fixed prices, every other thing is for haggling. So if you find something random on the streets that you need, you are going to bargain for it till you think you have a really good deal. Or you will be sold something of $2 at $13. Personal items can be stolen to so watch over them carefully. Items such as Mobile phones, Cash, Tablets, Cameras etc

The country has a variety of local food! All healthy and grown locally. You literally will be served lunch that was gotten from the garden in the morning. How awesome is this!!! You cannot leave without trying some of the local mouth watering delicacies. You will not regret it. I swear. (If you have tried something and you have liked it, Kindly leave a comment.) However, there are also various hotels and restaurants that have international menus. So if you get homesick and crave some of your food, you are covered. The place also has a variety of street food. It cannot be a full Ugandan experience if you have not tried the street food. From plantain roast, cassava roast to chicken, beef roast and the famous "Rolex". And no, And just so we are clear, it is not the watch!

And finally for today, arguably the most important thing in this day and age is the Internet. All the reasonable hotels , restaurants will have wifi so it will be pretty easy to keep up to date with all your social media, online news, news paper and also be in communication with the people back home as well as updating your Instagram. However this will only work when you are within range of that given location. So please plan accordingly with plan B while using the local internet service providers that i would mention name by name, but will not because they are not paying for any of this.

I feel like I have been rambling on and on so I will end here for today. Part 2 will come another time. In the meantime, please feel free to live your comments and questions. I will respond to them. Or share about your experience in Uganda.
